Darcy Lodge
A home in Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire for up to five children and young people. It has the appearance of a large, spacious and comfortable house, with nothing inside or outside to distinguish it from other properties in the area.
A caring, structured and homely environment
The whole ambience of the home, its decor, furniture and accessories, is designed to encourage warmth and stability within a carefully planned structure. Clear boundaries are set so that every child can live safely and discover a sense of their own growth.
Inside the home
The home is set within its own grounds and has spacious areas inside the house. Each child has their own bedroom, with one additional bedroom suitable for two siblings to share comfortably. There is a bathroom and a separate shower room, a kitchen and dining area, shared lounge space, and a garden at the back.
A room that is yours
Every bedroom is fully equipped and provides space to relax and study privately. Rooms can be secured, and young people may hold a key to their own room depending on age and risk. Children choose their own wall colours, bedding, cushions and curtains, and staff always knock before coming in.
Room to be together
A kitchen and dining area where meals are cooked and eaten together, and shared lounge space to chill out, play games or watch television. Mealtimes are flexible so a young person can eat when they are hungry, and we encourage shared meals where everyone can talk about their day.
A garden to use
There is a lawned area and a paved area in the back garden. Children are encouraged to play games out here, and there is seating for quiet time. It is also where we grow vegetables and herbs.
Learning to stand on your own two feet
We work with local schools and colleges in North East Lincolnshire and provide in-house learning where mainstream is not the right fit. Education here is about rebuilding confidence and discovering capability, as well as qualifications.

Structure is a quiet kindness. Our daily and weekly routines provide the predictability that helps a young person feel safe enough to grow.
Morning routines and a shared breakfast
Up in good time, breakfast together, and time to get ready for the day, whether that is school, college or in-house learning.
Key work sessions and therapeutic activities
After school there is help with homework, and regular keyworking sessions where a young person can talk things through with an adult who knows them well.
Evening meals and weekend outings
We try to eat dinner together and plan the evening, whether that is a club, an activity or a film at home. Later there is a light supper, a bath or shower, and bedtimes that vary with age and whether it is a school night. Weekends and holidays are planned in advance so everyone knows what is happening.
Oversight and inspection
Darcy Lodge is monitored independently every month and regulated by Ofsted. This is who checks on us, and how often.
An independent visitor inspects the home at least once a month to assess safeguarding arrangements and the quality of care. They meet the management team and also speak with the young people living here, who can raise anything positive or negative they wish to discuss.
Ofsted inspects Darcy Lodge and is the governing body that makes sure homes provide good care. Inspectors spend the day in the home with the young people and the staff, and produce a report, including a version written for the children themselves.
Our child protection and safeguarding policies are assessed and amended in co-operation with the North East Lincolnshire Safeguarding Children Partnership. Staff receive safeguarding training during induction and are assessed regularly on their understanding of the procedures.
