Tower Residential Care provides integrated residential children's homes for children and young people who experience complex social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. Our home, Darcy Lodge, is in Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire.
Care built around the whole child, not the referral form
Our objective is to meet the holistic welfare needs of every child in our care. We provide a child-centred package of support that responds to their personal, emotional, social and physical needs, and we work with other services and professionals to maximise each young person's independence, health and wellbeing.
How Darcy Lodge is set up
A small home, a high staff-to-child ratio, and a team that knows every young person well. These are the practical facts behind the care.

The team around every child
Darcy Lodge is staffed by a registered manager, an assistant manager, two team leaders and ten support workers, with a minimum staff group of twelve to maintain 24-hour cover.
A qualified social worker with 26 years in local authority children's services, including managing children's homes and working as an Independent Reviewing Officer.
Twenty years with the local authority and more than ten years as a registered children's home manager, providing residential and respite care to local children.
Holds overall responsibility for the governance and quality of the service, and is the final point of escalation for a complaint about the home.
Supports the day-to-day running of the home alongside the Home Manager, and is a point of contact for professionals when the manager is unavailable.
Two team leaders run the shift teams, each holding a diploma in residential childcare. One also acts as our Designated Safeguarding Lead.
Recruited for skill, life experience and temperament, and working a two-week rolling rota so children build meaningful relationships with the same faces. All are supported to complete a Level 3 or 4 diploma within two years.

We recruit for skill and for temperament. Every appointment follows safer recruitment guidance, with DBS and previous-employer checks, and a four-week induction in the home.
First, a secure base and a relationship that holds
There is a strong emphasis on establishing a secure base from which a child can build a close relationship with their keyworker and the wider care team. Clear boundaries are in place to support positive behaviour, within an atmosphere of high expectations where young people are valued for being themselves.
We work with what the behaviour is telling us
We believe children can recover from traumatic and painful life experiences. Every young person helps shape their own behaviour support plan. Our whole team is trained and annually reassessed in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, and our method emphasises communication, distraction and de-escalation, with physical intervention used only as a last resort.
Preparing for a fulfilling, independent adult life
Preparation for independence begins on the day a young person arrives. Life skills are woven into ordinary days: cooking, laundry, managing pocket money and a clothing allowance, opening a bank account. When it is time to move on, we can provide an aftercare plan with outreach support, agreed with the placing authority.
